I have extended the conclusion section a little to finish in a less bitter tone. Of course there are reasons for why things are the way they are and obviously the grass is always greener on the other side. But personally I am quite happy about my decision and do not regret it all. I'm still programming though and mostly working in purely functional environments nowadays, enjoying every bit of it.
